January sky

Just back from an impromptu walk
out past the allotments in Garthdee,
following the River Dee out of Aberdeen.

We walked until we met a rickety bridge,
suspension wires hanging like swinging steps.
The kind you might see in an adventure playground
assault course.

Standing beside the bridge,
we looked upstream towards the setting sun.
The warm light lit our backs as we turned home,
casting a pleasant glow on the trees ahead.

We passed some lovely houses,
with beautiful tall windows
looking out on views of the reservoir
across the road.

Two planes came in to land towards Aberdeen airport.
Not one cloud hovered in the pale blue January sky.
A cold night is forecast.
