It’s mid October,
the morning air is chilled.
Sunlight dapples the pavement
through gaps in the yellow-red leaves.
The fallen crunch, crisp underfoot;
Autumn’s carpet of gold and brown.
She breathes a cool breeze down our necks,
whispering a Winter warning
to fasten top buttons and dig out that hat.
Autumn arrives unnoticed until she is truly here.
