Heraldic shields always draw me in for a closer look.
For this reason, I was probably more excited than the average visitor
(or at least, more excited than my boyfriend!)
when we stumbled across the Aberdeen coat of arms,
tucked away in the David Welch Winter Gardens at Duthie Park.
The coat of arms depicts two vibrant yellow leopards,
standing rampant on either side of a vivid red shield.
The shield displays three silver castles,
which also appear on the flag of Aberdeen.
Below the shield, the motto “Bon Accord” (French, “Good Agreement”)
is in gold against a blue scroll.
Much as I’d love to, I don’t think I could trust Zeus and Thor
(my cheeky, chewy chinchillas) to hold a shield for me!
